Customer Review: An essential book - a great all-rounder
I recently bought a Nikon D40 after outgrowing a point and shoot and bought this book to try to flatten the learning curve. I found the book really helpful and learnt so many things that make me want to get out and take better shots and this book allows you to do that. In particular, it is great to have the benefit of a professional’s experience when it comes to the workflow process and there are many sound ideas and practices in this book regarding taking the shots and ensuring that your workflow is solid and dependable. I also now fully understand the RAW v JPG debate and thanks to the book know when to use each, their respective merits and how to get the best out of RAW images. Incidentally, I have also got so much more out of my copy of Photoshop since reading this book. A great buy.
Customer Review: Don’t bother
I hoped that this book would be a handbook for using a digital SLR. It is not it does not tell you anything that you did not know when you bought your camera. I was disapointed as I expected it to be good especially witht he author being such a good practical photographer. Save your money and buy a magazine it will have more info in it.

Customer Review: Did they forget something?
While on the whole extremely informative and enlightening I must point out it seems ludicrous to publish a book of this nature entirely in Black and White, and I’m not talking about black and white photography. There are literally example pictures through the book that are all printed black and white. So bit of a let down on that front as it limits a lot of the material to just written descriptions and your own imaginations. A real shame and i dare not even suggest a ploy so that you have to buy the DVD also? Who knows Other than that one minor/major (depending on your viewpoint) flaw the book itself is compact and thus easy to keep in a case as a reference and as I said before largely informative and helpful
Customer Review: A big help and a must have
If Sony had made the instruction manual as 1/2 as clear and as helpful this book it would have been a help. I now understand so much more about this camera, which makes my picture taking so much better.

Customer Review: hummm….i was expecting
a bright pink camera as shown in the picture, but what i was sent was baby pink and told that that was the only pink they did. so that this was in fact false advertising which upset me as i really wanted a bright one. aside form that the camera its self is very good. just a shame about the mistake
Customer Review: FAB LITTLE CAMERA!
This camera is fantasic! Its everything i was looking for, something small, compact and packed full of features! I never realised how small and cute it is! its WELL worth the price with fantasic pictures and technogly. Its perfect for someone who is on the move and can just slip their camera in their pocket or bag. The delivery was excellent and speedy coming in under 2days! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Customer Review: OK, not great
Pros: records and plays a wide range of formats. eighty quid or thereabouts, so the price is fine. Cons: Remote control and menu system are far from intuitive. Machine seems slow - both to respond to the remote and to do things. No freeview. The occasional whirring noise which suggests that it won’t last forever. Conclusion: If you want a low cost DVD recorder from a well known brand name, to last you until the analogue switch-off, then this might be for you. But … you might do better to spend more and get something better. If you just want something to replace the VCR - just to record and watch stuff on your own TV - there are better products elsewhere. I should add that also I have a freeview hard disc recorder (PVR) which sells for about ?50 more that this, and is intuitive, very easy, faster, and can record and play back two different things at the same time. So I may have been spoiled !
Customer Review: Not impressed
For anyone thinking of buying this, I would re-consider. I’m inclined to agree with the “buggy” comment above. Response to the remote control and menu selection is slow and … well … unresponsive. I’ve now erased 2 complete discs by mistake because menu selections didn’t happen when I expected them - then did happen when I didn’t. It regularly cycles round & round “please insert recordable disc”, even when a brand new disc has been inserted. It has twice randomly selected channels to “skip” on the channel list. The most annoying thing is that in disc menu it claims you have 1 hour 20 minutes available recording time …then it stops recording after 30(or whatever). Don’t know for sure, but suspect this is connected to it trying to fit with previously recorded spaces. Whatever the reason it’s annoying and wastes time (mine and the disc’s). Given the chance to do-over, I wouldn’t buy this again and I’m about to contact Philips about my disatisfaction with the item. On a slight plus side, picture quality through the unit is good, BUT I think it affects the tuning on one of the terrestrial channels. So not a complete positive. Hope this helps.

Customer Review: Don’t get me started
….on JVC DR-M’s - I have had 5 in all!!!! either DVD or DVD HDD recorders and each one has developed serious faults. I have had no help, in fact JVC have been confusing, unprofessional and completely uncaring about a machine of theirs which frankly isn’t cheap. I have had green bleeding in to the picture, “Loading” messages for hours and days on end and have now finally just lost the fifth machine completely DON’T EVER BUY A JVC DR-M DVD/HDD RECORDER…..EVER

i have returned this unit to jvc 4 times (?20 postage each time) and it always lasts a few months and then gets an error flashing ‘loading…loading’. even after replacing the unit with a new unit each time it still happens so it is a manufacturing fault that jvc do not know how to fix. when it works….great. i feel however it was a big mistake buying this dvdr.
