Customer Review: Great TV
I’ve had this about 6 months and just wanted to say that it’s a great TV. Perhaps I am not a very demanding customer, but to my eye the picture is great and the sound excellent. Excellent connectivity. Perhaps the EPG could be a little more impressive, but other than that it’s a well built, pleasing on the eye (on and off) TV.

Customer Review: Why you shouldn’t buy a large TV online.
The picture quality is good for an LCD TV. Don’t use the factory settings, look online and you will find how it should be set up for home use. There is ‘motion blur’, a slight effect on moving objects or when the camera pans, but that’s common on most LCD sets. Some viewers won’t even notice it. But it’s still quite not up to the old CRT standards of sharpness, especially on moving objects. The sound is not so good. As others have remarked, there is very little bass. I am sure Sony could have engineered better sound quality if they had wanted; small speakers can, surprisingly, give good lower frequencies.

But I can live with that.

What I can’t live with is a vertical red line on screen 5 cm from the left hand side. I notified Amazon, who said to send it back. As they no longer stock this TV, they would give a full refund as it’s only a couple of months old and otherwise as new. A company called HDNL was going to collect it. But that means, at short notice, getting a day off work. For me, that’s not easy, and after some delays I’m going to have to contact Amazon to re-re-arrange collection. I’m now booking a number of days off work. Because of course I’ve also get to get a replacement TV. And do you know what these courier companies are like? I was given a two and a half hour time-slot (fixed by the courier, not me). Great..

Why can’t Amazon send an engineer out to just repair it? I already know it’s the digital tuner in the TV that’s at fault. Well, I think you’ll find all online companies will want you to send back the TV if it develops a fault. And currently (read other reviews) Sony at least don’t seem to be too good on reliability (I’ve bought Sony for 30 years and this is the first of their TV’s to give a problem. Standards falling to keep prices down?).

Anyway, the outcome is , when eventually I get the TV back to Amazon, and get a refund, I’m going to a local TV shop which stocks some superb Panasonic Plasma TVs (still the best). It will mean paying about ?150 more, but I think it’s worth it. A five year guarantee. Service by their own engineer, in your own house. And a loan telly if it comes to that.

And no waiting around for bloody couriers.

Customer Review: Cheap and cheerful
I purchased for under ?50- and you do not expect a great deal for this amount. I did find that my panasonic ram discs played on this machine which was the main reason I bought it, but the Samsung do not play on the panasonic. I too have tried timer recording onto ram disc and it wouldnt. does anyone know if this a fixable problem?
Customer Review: Very disappointing - don’t bother.
Could not cope with dvd-ram discs (same problems as other reviewers). Progressive scan feature resulted in sound but no picture. Froze several times, I had to unplug it to re-set. It was cheap but I thought Samsung were fairly reputable and now I wish I hadn’t bothered. Returned within a week for a refund.

Customer Review: This is not a TV, just a replacement surround
[...], this product is not the television but a replacement bezel. The television itself is here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-Bravia-KDL46X2000U-Definition-Ready/dp/B000HBG6O6/sr=8-1/qid=1172401347/ref=sr_1_1/026-9864514-1010868?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I have one myself and it is absolutely fantastic, highly recommended.

Customer Review: How are you going to sell this item
How are you going to sell this item if theres no details about it. Im looking for a descent sized T.V that’s 60hz or more so i can use my xbox 360 on it because some of the games require 60hz T.V. But nooooo! just write down the weight of the product and everything will be fine

Customer Review: no antenna will work in all locations
I paid $11 for this antenna about 2 years ago. I also have 2 others, one about $25 and one about $40 in two other rooms. None of the three work in all 3 rooms, or even in from different spots in their respective rooms. I get great reception–both digital and regular in my bedroom with this “snail” as I call it. However, if you even breathe on it, it falls over due to the fact that all the weight is on one end (or if you catch your hair on it, it is light enough that you drag it off every time you walk past). If it had a heavier base, I would give it 4 stars.
Customer Review: Improves reception but . . .
no more than the rabbit ears that came with the television. As long as you can try it and then return it, worth a try based on others’ reviews where they did have good luck with this antenna. Didn’t work for me.

Akai PT4299HD 42″ Widescreen HD-Ready Rear-Projection TV
Turn your dreams of big-screen sports and lifelike movies into reality with Akai’s surprisingly affordable PT4299HD projection TV. This giant, 42-inch set offers a widescreen image perfectly formatted for the latest high-definition broadcasts and your favorite DVD movies. The screen accepts full 1080i HD images from DTV set-top receivers and offers stunning, 15-watts-per-channel stereo sound with BBE sound enhancement.

A progressive-scan converter brings standard interlaced (480i) signals–such as those from VCR, non-progressive DVD players, and other devices–to progressive (480p) resolution. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The PT4299HD’s three-line comb filter enhances resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character’s striped T-shirt).

Connections include 2 HD-capable component-video inputs, and a translucent onscreen display simplifies setup, even when your program is already in progress.

Customer Review: Great size & excellent HDTV & DVD picture for the price
Looked at Plasmas & LCD’s -this Akai has much better contrast and blacks and half the price. It’s a rear projection CRT-no bulbs to change like DLP’s. If you have the room, it’s not bad looking either. Only 21″ deep and 89 lbs is not bad compared to large 200lb. direct view CRTs. TV should be at eye level or slightly above and 10 -15′ from viewer with low or no lights on for best picture. I put it on a sturdy coffee tabe. Akai was known in past for high quality audio components like reel to reel, may now be made by Samsung. Color saturation & balance was excellent out of box. 4 picture modes are available, I found Custom & Standard best to tweak picture with, I found cutting down on sharpness & contrast got a nicer, smoother picture. Hooked up to Charter HD cable box with monster DVI cables & DVD with component cables- gets excellent HDTV & DVD picture, from side angles as well. Hoping for more HD channels to become available as analog (non HD) picture quality is lousy when in DVI input mode as it has to be in “stretch mode” on cable box to fill the whole screen. These 480 or lower broadcasts show 4:3 black bars on side which worries me for burn in problems. I heard that the first 100 hrs of use are most critical to avoid burn in on RPCRTs. Using the TV as the tuner rather than cable box and using its “panorama” option fixes this better though and significantly improves an analog- source picture to “good.” Watching sports or anything else in HD is awesome though as monitor displays 1080 input from most of those. Picture seems to get even better as the TV warms up. Very good remote as well. It’s S-Video input is essential for decent VCR use. Kmart is clearing these out now for $810 and a very reasonable extra 2 yr protection plan for 50$. For about $900 total with taxes, combined with my surround sound system ( built in sound from TV is very good, by the way), I have a pretty decent theater in my basement!
Customer Review: Liked it at first
I got one just like this at Conn’s but it was the 52″ model. I was really impressed when I got it home. The HD through the component input is beutiful. But here is what you need to watch out for BURN IN in on the side bars if you watch it in 4:3 mode and I am talking less then 3 months with only occasionally watching it with black bars on the side. Akai put in small print on the front page of their manual that they will not warrent any type of burn in. I did call them anyway and they won’t do a thing. If you do buy this TV make sure you always watch in 16:9 mode or you too will get side bar burn in.
