Customer Review: A great addition
I recently purchase a Go520 and got the iPod cable with it, the ability to listen to music via the SatNav unit was a great benefit. Before the directions would get drowned out by my music, now the music fades and the directions are crystal clear. In addition I can control my iPod via the TomTom and have both units provide sound via my in car radio. A perfect addition for anybody who likes to listen to music whilst travelling.

Customer Review: Great - until it broke!
The TV was great to start with - picture quality is fantastic, sound is excellent, and it was everything I’d hoped for. But after 15 weeks it broke - the screen went blank and it kept switching itself on and off in an endless cycle. “No problem” I thought - it’s under warranty and I’ll get it repaired.

Well, the TV was collected on 26th November and, nearly 7 weeks later, I still don’t have it back. Christmas viewing was ruined. The repairers, acting under Sony’s instruction, keep ordering parts (which are never in the country and take days to arrive), fit them, and it till doesn’t work. Sony themselves are completely useless - all I get from them is a promise to call the repairers, which I can do myself. As of today it appears to be fixed but I still have to wait another 4 days to get it back.

My advice? Buy a Panasonic Viera. Wish I had.

Customer Review: KDL 40 X 2000 Review
After reading many reviews on various LCD makes (including on the SOny 40 x series), going into one showroom after another and getting staff to carry out a variety of tests to compare a number of LCD brands within the 37″ to 40″ range, I now have to agree with all the good reviews about the Sony 40″ X series. I took delivery yesterday and I am even more impressed than my initial impression when seeing this Sony LCD in the shops. And guess what, picture clarity of standard terrestial TV signal is crystal clear. Even without connecting to a SKY HD box set. …By the way John Lewis did a price match for ?1549 (with 5 yr warrentee)..Best value out there at the moment when you check prices on line (with 5 yrs cover included). Pick any online company with a walk-in shop/warehouse where LCDs (of any make) can be bought over the counter.

The tricky part is attaching the TV stand (took 3 mins), but once that was done Setting up the TV took me a couple of minutes at the most. The automatic Smart TV setting resizes your ITV image to fit the screen with little distortion of the image. I did not itend to spend this amount on an LCD however I can tell you all it was absolutely worth pushing the boat out.

I would advise seating at least 2 meters from the screen and futher out for better viewing. Also you may want to invest in a home cinema system or equivalent audio system. The LCD speakers could have been better, but hey, I am not complaining. ALl in all only slightly (and stress slightly) let down by speakers. Beware issues with 40X3500. more money but improvement do not justify additional cost.

Customer Review: Fun little camera!
I am definitely an amateur, not as savvy a user as it sounds like a lot of the other reviewers are. But, from the other extreme of “photographer-smartness”, this is a great little camera to use. It’s easy, yet has a lot of functionality, which the user guide manages to clearly explain. I needed something very small, which it is, that takes awesome pictures, which it does. Battery life seems very good, so far. My husband likes the manly brown color, too.
Customer Review: Fantastic camera at a great price
I just bought this camera last night and I had a few hours to play with it. The picture quality is fantastic indoors and outside. The macro setting is really nice. I was looking for a small camera under $300 that has great picture quality and movie quality. I found it! The SD100IS is the best choice, and it looks very cool. I bought mine in brown.

Bring your photographic subjects closer with this Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer Telephoto Zoom Lens. It is designed with Canon’s Optical Image Stabilizer technology and is compact and light. This high zoom ratio lens is equivalent to a focal length of 88-400mm in the 35mm format (when used on Canon EOS cameras compatible with EF-S lenses). The image stabilizer effect is equivalent to a shutter speed about 4 stops faster than the same size lens without Image Stabilizer. In other words, if the slowest shutter speed you could formerly hold a 250mm lens steadily was 1/250th of a second, with Canon’s 4-stop stabilization correction, you could hand-hold at shutter speeds as slow as 1/15th of a second. It also uses a UD-glass lens element to correct chromatic aberration for excellent image quality throughout the zoom range.

Customer Review: I Love It For IS and Zoom Range at this Price, Not Pure Performance
I was determined to love this lens based on the specs and price point alone. Canon really needed to come out with this lens at this price because Nikon offers a very decent Vibration Reduction lens at roughly the same range for the same price, leaving me make apologize for Canon and their neglect to all my Nikon friends. The IS can be switched off to save battery life but I haven’t noticed a difference in battery performance with it. The IS is only activiated when you press the shutter halfway for auto focus. Although it FEELS like there is a small lag for the IS to start, I don’t think I’ve had any photos messed up because of it. You can HEAR the IS. A little bizarre after using point and shoots that have IS that is silent, but it doesn’t seem to affect performance Pro: Great price for an image stabilized zoom lens. I paid 299 and am very pleased even though Amazon is selling it for 280 a week later. ALso arrive 2 months sooner than Amazon initially promised. Pro: Images are very sharp. Pro: Image stabilization does a VERY nice job. Four stops as advertised by Canon? I’m not so sure. GREATLY enhancing the composition experience at 250mm? Absolutely. Pro: Much smaller and lighter than the 70-300 of any manufacturer and much sharper than my Sigma 70-300. Con: Cheapish feel. But just use it, quit feeling it already. Plastic mount. But if you NEED a metal mount, may I suggest you are being a little rough with your camera. Con: This lens is a little (ok, maybe not so little) slow to focus in dim light, sometimes it misses altogether when I think other lenses of mine would have had no difficulty. Con: I never gave Inner Focusing much thought on my other lenses until I used this. The front of this lens rotates AND moves in and out a LOT while focusing, so much so that you MAY even want to recompose your shot. The length of this lens changes almost an inch across the focus range. I just checked my Sigma 70-300 and found that it does also, but I’ve never seen it make as much difference in the viewfinder as I have with this Canon. Your perception may vary. This lens and the soon to be arriving 18-55 IS as the XSi kit lens will allow me to carry one less lens to achieve an 18-250 IS range. For a little more money than the cost of both lenses you can get the Tamrom 18-250 but not have Image Stabilization. Conclusion: A great EF-S lens for Canon users. (even if Nikon had to force Canon to make it for us.)
Customer Review: Best Telephoto Lens in this price rang.
I got this lens a week ago and love it. Yes Amazon is saying that you are saving a 100 dollars when buying from them but that is not true. Any way this is a great lens, I like that there is no mm gap between the 18-55mm lens and this lens. Also this lens includes a new feature, that is image stabilizer (can be turned on or off). This feature is good for telephoto lens because when taking a picture from far away any little movement of the camera causes the picture to be blurry, the stabilizer gets rid of that. A+++ in my book!

Customer Review: Very Impressed
Thought long and hard about replacing our DVD player, VCR and Freeview box as they all worked perfectly - if it ain’t broken don’t fix it, but after getting a HDD TV we are so pleased with the Panasonic. Picture quality is superb with upscalling through HDMI, it was easy to install and simple to use and without all the old kit we have installed 2 extra storage shelves into our TV cupboard. Love the facility where you can start recording a program and start watching it before it has finished recording, also watching another recording whilst recording another. The unit is quiet when in use. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Why didn’t we change earlier?
Customer Review: Perfect recorder
The picture quality of this recorder is what distinguishes it from the competition. The on-screen menus maybe aren’t perfect or even as good as on a Sony player, but anyone who appreciates great image and sound quality shouldn’t look any further than this Pana.

Customer Review: Terribley Complicated Player
We have had our DVD Recorder for about 5 months now and I must say, its the most difficult piece of technology I have EVER come across. I must admit I am usualy a bit of a technogeek when it comes to things like this, and have them figured out in 10 minutes, but this player/recorder has made me surrender… and I loathe it.. probley because its defeated me. Still to this day cannot get it connected up how I want it. Followed the instructions down to a T, done exactley what it says with the correct cables.. yet it fails to record with my cable box. I have just been fiddling about with it this afternoon, and managed to get it to record spongebob squarepants of all things.. it won’t let me play it back now though!! With it connected how the intructions showed me, its made the picture quality of my cable tv slightly fuzzy and on the DVD player menu and when playing a dvd, theres very heavy ghosting going on.. this annoys the hell out of me. If you enjoy over rated, difficult to understand technology, if not.. I recommend LG, Sony ect.
Customer Review: Philips comes good
I received this DVDR as a replacement for a previous Philips model DVDR which had crashed after a couple of years with a known software glitch. I was somewhat hesitant to deal with Philips after this bad experience, especially as I had to pay approx ?80 for the privilege, but I have no regrets. A new DVDR of this quality would have cost much more and the old one was not repairable. This uprated DVD is a faultless performer, is more user-friendly than its predecessor and can be changed to being region-free in a few easy moves (at no cost and without CDs or software downloads). Soooooooooo simple, I’d need to have been a moron not to be able to do it. Now I can watch films I’d waited half a lifetime to view because they’re only available for Region 1. I have it linked to a freeview box also with its own recordable hard drive and think I have the best combo without selling my soul to Sky+.

Customer Review: So much potential wasted
I bought this product with a great deal of anticipation, but eventually was forced to return it due to various failings several of which: 1) Failure to “daisy chain” on a SCART socket (demands to be the only device due to not switching off; not very energy efficient). 2) Does not stream media from Vista. Despite 2 hours of very poor support this device would not accept windows media player streaming (despite Vista seein it, it could not see VISTA). 3) Continual loss of PC when using “PCLink”. This meant that the device needed to continually be added back onto the security enabled network. Not a great experience. 4) When plugged into my new shiny HD TV I got poor HD playback. It appears my 2.4Gig dual core X64 processor with 4gb of memory PC was not capable transmitting HD over a Wireless-g network without stuttering. It may be bandwidth, but nothing else was using any bandwidth! I would not recommend this device unless you have an unsecured wireless network and a lot of patience. imo.
Customer Review: Diverse media support, poor DVD
To start with, a small clarification, this unit is not a DVD recorder. It comes with Nero Recode which allows you to convert non-copyright DVDs to Nero digital files to store on your PC. The important thing to note here is non-copyright; don’t expect to RIP your own purchased DVD’s if they have copyright protection. The good points: It supports a decent number of video formats, including Xvid, Divx, WMV and Digital Nero. I have had no problems playing most of my videos. I also had no issues playing MP3’s or displaying JPEG’s. It’s easy to set up and personally I have had no issues with networking speed but I’m using the Ethernet port at 100MB rather than wireless. It just plugs and plays using its own rather basic sharing software (see bad points), but I have successfully accessed content on my PC using several other media sharing services. You can update the firmware online, let’s hope that some improvements come soon. The Bad points: The interface is a basic text list as mentioned in another review; it really needs some work from Linksys. The media sharing software that is shipped with the unit only sorts your content by folders, and you need to be logged onto the PC with it running to access the files. I’m now using TwonkeyMedia to access my files, it’s far superior, and I don’t need to log on to the PC as it runs as a service. Fast forwarding some videos past 8x speed can lock the unit and it needs to be reset to recover. Those that do fast forward at the maximum of 32x need a few seconds whilst the video is buffered. When playing DVD’s, the player doesn’t remember where the disc has gotten up to when you stop it, requiring a bit of chapter jumping to get back it where you were. Overall: It’s potentially a very good player, but Linksys need to write some new firmware for it to really improve the interface. It’s also much better when used with other Media Sharing software. It has an HDMI interface and digital audio connectors for 5.1 support, but I have yet to try these. This is a unit for the more technically competent, who aren’t too fused about the interface and want a unit with more media support and thats cheaper than the AppleTV box.

BRAVIA Engine picture enhancement

Customer Review: Great product!!!
Was hesitating to get an X series but I decided finally to save ?500,given that it seems that the performancs are almost identical.

Got my 46″ W series delivered yesterday. What can I say?

Perfect build quality, no dead pixels, no bleeding…

Couple it with an XBOX360 and max the resolution trough the VGA connexion —- you will be blown away!!! No smearing, no double picture…

Fantastic colours and lots of connectivity in the back…

SD picture is ok, I expected it to be worse and it is not that bad…

Sound is fine too, although cant obviously beat a good set of 5.1 speakers…

All in all, a very good product. I honestly recommended it

Control settings for audio and video playback from up to 10 feet away with the included HP remote, then store it conveniently in the PC card slot. Enjoy movies or music in seconds with the external DVD or music buttons to launch HP QuickPlay (which bypasses the boot process).

Optimized for mobile performance, it’s powered by the 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 dual-core processor, which offers 64-bit computing capability and higher throughput for simultaneous computing tasks. Other features include a extra-large 250 GB hard drive, 2 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), 54g Wi-Fi LAN (802.11b/g), multi-format/dual-layer LightScribe DVD drive (which can also burn CDs), NVidia GeForce Go 7150 video card with up to 559 MB of shared video memory, Bluetooth connectivity, multi-format memory card reader, and integrated Webcam for easy video conferencing.

It comes preinstalled with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium, which includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you’ll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.

The Basics

  • Processor: The 1.9 GHz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC’s capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing–increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You’ll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it’s designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You’ll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.

Each processing core has a 512 KB L2 cache (for a 1 MB total), and this processor can deliver up to a 1600 MHz system bus for lightning quick computing reflexes. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

  • Hard Drive: The 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive is more than double the average size for notebook PCs, and it offers a fasts 5400 RPM disk speed–an improvement over other notebooks with extra-large hard drives. It provides more than enough capacity for storing documents, digital media files, and video editing software. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
  • Memory: The 2 GB of installed RAM (2 x 1024 MB DDR2) will satisfy many users, but this notebook’s two DIMM slots have a maximum 4 GB RAM capacity–perfect for high-end video editing and 3-D gaming. The additional capacity helps boost the amount of available video RAM that’s shared with this notebook’s video card.
  • DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.

This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label–anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).

Screen, Video & Audio
While this notebook is actually as wide as standard 15-inch displays, the high-definition, widescreen 14.1-inch display (1280 x 800-pixel resolution) has the same form factor as a 12-inch screen–taking up less space on your desk. Video is powered by the integrated NVidia GeForce Go 7150 graphics/video card, which provides up to 559 MB of video memory shared with the system memory. It features NVidia’s PureVideo technology–which provides great picture clarity, smooth video, accurate color, and precise image scaling for video content–and full support for Microsoft DirectX 9.0 for stunningly realistic cinematic effects for all DirectX-compatible applications.

The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and a pair of stereo earbud headphones with volume controls is included. You’ll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
This notebook has an integrated 54g wireless LAN that’s fully compatible with 802.11b/g wireless networks. With the Bluetooth connectivity, you can communicate and synchronize with Bluetooth-enabled peripherals such as PDAs and cell phones. It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a very good offering of connectivity options, which includes both super-fast USB 2.0 and FireWire:

It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Operating System

Customer Review: Unreliable product with atrociously poor support
9 months after I bought a HP Pavilion Notebook DV6208NR, the motherboard malfunctioned. I sent the notebook to be serviced. It did not boot up when I received it. I had to wait again on the phone to be guided on how to boot up. One month later, the notebook crashed, and I had to send it in a second time. Here it is sitting on my desk and failing to boot up. Do not buy HP notebooks. They are unreliable, and the technical support is atrociously poor.
Customer Review: Poor customer service
I have this laptop for just over a year. The 12-cell battery could not hold any charge — 0%. HP customer service was not effective in handling defective product.

Customer Review: Awsome TV
I was not sure whether to get this or the model S, but a quick review of features on the Sony website (when are you going to allow Comparison on Amazon to save me leaving your website and risk me buying elsewhere guys??) revealed the T had a much better spec for very little extra.

The picture is fantastic and the sounds great too. I am a Sony fan but when they keep producing such good products why would I go elsewhere?

Customer Review: Nicely featured TV
I bought this television from Amazon a short while ago. It was very easy to set up and I’m very pleased with both the picture and sound quality. It is absolutely packed with features, most of which I have not tried yet. I’ve only found a couple of little niggle so far. Firstly when I mounted the Television on the wall using a standard universal vesa mounting bracket, which was not a Sony product, the bracket obscured both the HMDI sockets and the PC/VGA input socket at the rear of the set. Secondly the power supply and all the controls are situated at the top of the set. If you want to mount the set high up on the wall, it can be difficult to power off the set completely. Apart from the above design features, I’m very pleased with the KDL-26T3000.

Customer Review: Great Machine….After Considerable Cleanup Work
After spending easily more than 10 hours cleaning out all the Sony Bloatware installed on the machine, ditching the Norton 2007 trial version (2008 seems to be a considerable improvement performance-wise), and configuring Vista so as to run more efficiently, this machine is great. The display is very sharp and bright, it runs very quietly (you can barely hear the fan) and is very compact and light. My co-workers are quite impressed Sony was able to put so much into such a small package. 2GB of RAM is a must though to deal with Vista. Sony has a very good machine here. If only they would get rid of the bloatware and provide an option for XP instead of Vista, this would be a great machine.
Customer Review: An excellent well-rounded machine.
I purchased this notebook to augment a large dual-monitor software development workstation that I use on a daily basis, so I was looking for portability, battery life, and style points more than raw processing power and features. This is the first ultra-portable machine I’ve ever used so cannot compare to other systems. That being said, this is an excellent machine. It is lighter/smaller than the novels I stick in my backpack, fun to type on, and plenty powerful enough for what I need. I have no trouble running Vista, databases, software development IDEs, and Adobe CS3 on the machine, although it is understandably slower than my workstation, but not by too terribly much. The only negatives to this machine are the power button, power cord, and feeling of fragility. The power button, on the outside hinge, is easy to press on accident. It’s important to note that with the lid closed and on standby, pressing the button does nothing (so it wont drain the battery by turning on in your backpack while you’re about town), and only becomes a problem when you’re working on it and accidentally put it in standby. The power cord is also a little hokey. Sony spent a ton of money designing a stylish notebook but uses a power cord that doesn’t seat properly and still needs an adapter brick. They should spend some of that industrial design money to improve the whole package. And finally, it feels fragile, although this is unavoidable since it is ultra-portable. I would love a machine as small as this in size, but weighs two extra pounds by being made of aluminum. The carbon fiber is “sturdy” but not “solid.” That being said, I have no trouble with the machine and it runs plenty fast enough once I spent three hours uninstalling all the crap-ware that Sony threw on it. It was definitely an expensive, but justifiable, purchase.

Customer Review: Great telly but no 24fps mode for HD-DVD / Blu Ray
Everything about this TV is top-notch, apart from it not having a 24fps mode for HD-DVD players. This means certain scenes on HDDVDS (and BluRay) will appear jerky (like they are running at about 10 frames per second) because of…well, it’s too complicated to go into here but suffice to say you will be very upset if you buy a player and try and watch Planet Earth on it. Any scene with lots of moving detail (shots from the air mainly) look terrible. Apparently the only solution is to buy a 24fps telly - my player is 24fps compatible, I assumed this TV was too, but sadly it’s not. SIGH. ?900 for a telly which can’t play HD-DVDs properly…how annoying. Need to find someone to offload this onto asap…

Customer Review: Sony Bravia 40″
The television was a replacement but the old TV worked fine. However, hubby fell for the bargain within the Sony shop. They have some real bargains so we bought a Sony DVD player/recorder at the same time.

There was just no ’setting up’ involved. The pair ‘married’ when plugged in and even the SKY hand control works properly now - turns TV off even! Both hand controls work either Sony TV or Recorder so hunting for the correct one is a thing of the past. Haven’t felt the need to purchase HD from SKY as the quality is great. I think the TV is ahead of it’s time.

Going back to buy hubby a set of surround sound speakers for his Christmas present (his idea not mine). Can’t wait personally.
