Customer Review: Good recorder let down by EPG
This is a very good recorder let down by a fault in the EPG. Basically it’s fine if you set it to record programs on the same day. However programs set more than 24 hours in advance can be lost. The good news is that apparantly (according to the pcadvisor website) Sony have a fix on CD-ROM. Call them on 0800-1695263.
Customer Review: Not a Dual Digital Tuner !!!
Don’t be caught out by the “Integrated Dual Digital and Analogue Tuner”. I thought this would mean it has two digital tuners and that I could record BBC1 and watch BBC3 but you can’t you must watch the channel you are recording. Dual means one digital and one analogue. Also the EPG interface is not as nice as the VTX-D800U it has the same layout but it feels a bit crowded and is baby blue not the crisp grey and white. I’m still getting to know this device so may post again.
LG RH266 DVD Recorder - 160GB HDD
Customer Review: Don’t waste your money on LG
As first time to DVD recording, I am disappointed by the user un-friendliness of this machine, will someone please produce a DVD recorder that is as intuitive to use as the good old video recorder. This machine: a)documentation assumes you are already an expert, it omits key information and is poorly organised; b) the machine has a mind of its own, sometimes does what you ask, other times it is too busy doing something else to respond to the remote or even the front panel buttons; c) it may be possible to edit the HDD recordings as the manual suggests, but I’ve not yet worked out how. d) so far it’s ruined several blank DVDs but only once recorded one, and that took 2 hours. It’s supposed to offer fast speed (x4) dubbing, but I’ve not yet found how to get it to do so. I gather from others that buying a LG DVD recorder is like buying a Lada car, so it serves me right. Don’t make the same mistake.
Customer Review: The best HDD recorder at this price point but not without it’s flaws
A good budget HDD recorder, DVD writer and player which does the job nicely but with few thrills. There’s no video+ feature and unlike some of the higher end recorders this one will not automatically add titles to your recordings for you. Also, timer recording only works when the unit is in stand by which is inconvenient and easy to forget. Worst of all the unit turns off when a timer recording finishes, even if you happen to be watching the recording back from the start. As other reviewers have pointed out, this unit does not have a digital tuner so it’s not that useful to freeview users. But credit where it’s due, the LG RH266 is excellent for the price. It’s very easy to use. You get 70+ hrs recording time in SP. You can pause live TV and the timeshift features work nicely. It can record to DVD -R, -RW, +R ,+RW and can play back all kinds of formats including Divix files. Recently I have been very disappointed by the lifespan of `quality brand’ products such as Sony, Panassonic and Apple; it seems like they just don’t build them to last more then a couple of years and I’ve found that out of warranty repairs aren’t worth the cost. At the same time the bog standard budget AV gear I’ve bought has outlasted all my `quality’ stuff. I bought this LG recorder with that in mind, reasoning that if it lasts until the predicted digital TV switch over in my area it will have out lived the Panassonic DMR-E50 I bought on What HI-FI’s recommendation a few years ago. And at this price I don’t mind if I only get 4 or 5 years use out of it.
