Customer Review: Defective by design
This Samsung product has many great features. HDMI, HD compliant, 250GB and so on. Yet it will have you cursing at the device within hours of starting to use it. When programs are to be recorded using the timer capability, the device must be turned off. If you are playing something at the time, it will not record. So you must switch it off, let it start recording, then go back to what you were watching before, which naturally it has forgotten about leading to irritating searches. Then when the timed recording finishes, it switches off the device, regardless of what you were doing. It is intensely annoying to use. Not a good feature in a TV recorder. Other systems do not have this design flaw. One can only speculate as to why Samsung designers might consider this a sensible feature as it so obviously is not.

Customer Review: Avoid!!
I had no problems with the software unlike some other reviewers and songs loaded on fine, and I’ve also had great experiance with creative’s range of sound cards, however… 1. Its made of plastic so thin and flimsy that you need to be careful if you put this player down outside in case it gets blown away by the wind or carried of by a large mouse. 2. Because of the previously mentioned wafer thin ‘paper’ its made from, if you sit on/drop/press buttons/use this player it will break. I advise using a cotton bud to press the buttons so you dont apply too much undue pressure. 3. The battery life. Its battery life rivals the lifespan of a mayfly - I think I got about one hour out of it after charging it for about 7. I think the 15 or so hours battery life the box refers to is actually the total life span of the player rather than a single charges play time. You have been warned… Normally I would happily recommend Creative to anyone but not the Zen - no way.
Customer Review: Avoid like the plague
I have had an old Creative Zen NX MP3 player for a number of years and have been really happy with it, but figured I would like a smaller model to carry about with me There are some good things to be said about the unit - it’s really small and light, and the features are good - really liked having a radio on it But - and this is a very very big but - the unit is useless - the firmware is so unstable it crashes every other day, when this happens you can only rescue it by pressing the incredibly small and hard to find reset button - impossible if you don’t happen to carry a safety pin or similar on your person when you are out and about!!! Secondly, the Windows drivers are so fundamentally broken that it is next to impossible to get tracks transferred on to the player as it will keep on dropping the connection I raised this with Creative tech support and the solution is to apply all number of registry hacks and Windows hotfixes - none of which really sorted out the problem and I feel is way beyond the average PC user Having had a look at their forums on their website I am not alone in this situation and this affects many others too In summary - I was once a very happy and loyal Creative customer - now I will never buy another Creative product again for as long as I live - have now given up on this and have purchased a SanDisk player instead!!!

Toshiba DVD 160GB HDD VCR Recorder

Customer Review: Super value
I’m a teacher with 120+ video tapes, full of programmes I still use, but needed to transfer to DVD, as video machines are being phased out in my school. This machine is brilliant and I have managed to copy entire tapes onto the HDD, then select those programmes I want to keep, to be transferred to a DVD once I have sufficient to fill a disk. For recording current programmes, the HDD is excellent and the precision with which adverts or overruns of the recording can be deleted is fantastic. I can now produce a DVD with titled programmes, chapter marks highlighting specific parts of programmes and, most important of all, I can FIND the relevant programme quickly - no more time wasted winding videos back and forth. I researched thoroughly before I decided which make to buy and this Toshiba model was head and shoulders above its far more expensive rivals.

Customer Review: So Much Promise
Firstly, It does do what it says, it records on hard disk and DVD, and it does so competently. It has little irritants like naming of titles is only in upper case, no QWERTY keyboard layout. The pause live TV only lasts an hour, which I know a year ago was cutting edge practically, but still! It tries to be slick, and flash but it realy isn’t. I do like the editing functionality but the menus are clumsy. Who did they test it on?The user manual says you can record on DVD-R but somehow it won’t let you. +RW is fine though. the picture quality is good on SLP so use that and save space. You can get a lot on 160GB at that rate. Good for recording your old VHS onto HDD, & editing it (in a basic fashion) before dubbing to DVD. You can’t watch one channel whilst recording another! It’ll be obsolete before long too long as it’s analogue. Shame really, good idea that wasn’t taken far enough. Add twin tuning freeview and better navigation / editing tools… now that would be the thing.
