Customer Review: DO NOT BUY!!!!
I bought this a while ago, the first one I got didn’t even switch on so they replaced it. The second one worked ok for about 5 months and I have nothing but trouble with it since….it only records when and if IT feels like it - it has no consistancy it reads a disk fine one time and then put the same disk in 2 mins later and it says disk is not compatable! It’s a very expensive DVD PLAYER NOT RECORDER unless you only want it for 5 months. Please save your money a buy a decent one - that’s what I’ve had to do!!!
Customer Review: Ellion - no product support
I bought a similar DVD recorder made by Ellion and after about 18 months the power supply failed, I have seen other comments on the web with similar faults. Also another niggle was the clock would not keep correct time and had to be reset constantly. I have emailed Ellion for some advice but I am still waiting…… My advice - think very very carefully before you buy one of their products, I will not be buying again!!

Customer Review: VISTA GOOD NEWS!
I bought this player and then discovered that the software (Samsung Studio 5) was incompatible with Vista BUT a quick visit to the Samsung home page allowed me to download the appropriate updated software. No prob! Since then it has been an extremely happy relationship between myself and the 4gb K5. Can’t really fault it, although I cannot help thinking that the .jpg photo viewing facility was an ‘add on’. Seriously folks, if you want a dedicated Mp3 player with FM plus a speaker that turns heads and delivers surprisingly good sound then this is the purchase to make. Battery life is absolutely superb!
Customer Review: Some good points - mostly bad…
I’ve got one of these players and I hate it! Bad points: At the beginning of a track there is a fade in - on every track - why? You can’t turn it off either IT IS SOOOOO ANNOYING!!! The player has a built-in speaker that I never use. It makes it twice the size that it should be - I find it pointless. You don’t get a belt clip with it either - you can buy one for ?30 if you feel like shelling out. Ear phones are uncomfortable. I never use them. You can’t use iTunes to upload music - you can either use the propriertory Samsung software of Windows media player. You can’t upload m4a, m4p or avi files. Good points: Sound quality is fantastic. Battery life is excellent. Overall: My wife bought it for me for my birthday as a replacement for my iPod mini. I wouldn’t buy one for myself as it has far less features than the iPod - I’m looking to get myself an 8gb nano.

Customer Review: Everything from basics to cordon bleu
In a world where there is often not enough time for cooking, the microwave has come into it’s own. That said, very few users will know little more than the switch for heat and the switch for defrost. This book enables the user to get the very best out of such an important piece of kitchen hardware. Beginning with an essential “How to use this book,” the reader is then given a straightforward lesson in how the microwave works followed by the right utensils and dishware to be used. Whilst most of us may be aware that, for example, tinfoil does not go into a microwave, the list of items one should not use also includes; polystyrene, melamine, decorated china and glass and unglazed pottery. So far, we are only 7 pages into the book and the information imparted has been essential without over-explanation. Next we have food facts, arranging food, covering, browning and cooking techniques followed by that all-important “testing to see of it’s done,” various tips and caring for the equipment. Any reader who gets this far and no further will have improved their microwave cooking skills to a very significant degree. From now on it’s recipes, recipes and even more recipes and they include; snacks, main courses, desserts, savouries, bread, preserves, cakes, biscuits, pasta, sandwiches and even salads! In short everything from basics to cordon bleu. NM

Customer Review: don’t buy this brand
absolutely rubbish! has a mind of it’s own…not consistant, only records when it feels like it!!
Customer Review: Looks good, but that was all
This unit looked great when I took it out of the box. Unfortunately, my problems began as soon as I plugged it in… as nothing happened. I left it for half an hour and it finally spluttered into life. However, several test recordings later and it’s going back to Amazon. It froze on every recording, refused to eject disks and still switches itself off at random. I tried different types of disk and changing fuses but it made no difference. Shame.

Offering powerful computing resources at an affordable price, the Sony VAIO VGN-NR160E/W also makes a stylish statement with rounded corners and unique coloring. Like a blast of light, this Silk VAIO NR notebook features a bright white matte finish that calls attention to the notebook’s ingenious hidden seams. The widescreen 15.4-inch screen makes it easy to multitask in several open windows, or watch a DVD in its proper aspect ratio. And Sony’s original XBRITE-ECO LCD technology delivers razor-sharp details and crisp, bold colors–all while conserving battery life. The instant AV Mode feature enables you to start watching a DVD or listening to music with the push of a single button–without having to boot up the system.

This notebook is powered by the 1.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor, which offers a 20 percent performance boost over its predecessor while using 28 percent less power–so you get the benefit of a powerful dual-core PC plus all the benefits of mobility. Other features include a 160 GB hard drive, 1 GB of installed RAM (4 GB maximum), tri-mode Wi-Fi LAN (802.11a/b/g), multi-format/dual-layer DVD?RW drive (which also burns CDs), ExpressCard 34 slot, and both Memory Stick and SD memory cart slots.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center. In addition to easily playing your DVD movies and managing your digital audio library, you’ll be able to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV). Vista also integrates new search tools throughout the operating system, includes new parental control features, and offers new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures.

The Basics

  • Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor has a 1.5 GHz processor speed, fast 667 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and large 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It’s optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications–such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications–while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:

    • Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
    • Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
    • Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
    • Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.

  • Hard Drive: The 160 GB hard drive (5400 RPM) offers enough to room to hold a digital audio library of over 26,000 songs and still have room left over for movies, games, and a large collection of software. This Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data–akin to FireWire and USB 2.0.
  • Memory: The 1 GB of installed RAM (2 x 512 MB DDR2) is a decent start, but this notebook’s two DIMM slots have a maximum 4 GB RAM capacity–perfect for high-end video editing and 3-D gaming. It also offers a top-of-class 667 MHz speed. To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.
  • DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data–great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD+R/-R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a standard 82-key keyboard (2mm stroke and 19.05mm pitch) and electro-static two-button touchpad.

Screen, Video & Audio
You’ll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, with its 1280 x 800-pixel resolution. The XBRITE-ECO technology delivers brilliant colors and stunning clarity with efficient power usage, and it features an anti-reflective coating to minimize reflection and ensure a beautifully clear image from any viewing angle.

Video is powered by the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, which uses shared video memory (up to 251 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3-D graphics performance–delivering over 2x scores on 3-DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
The Intel PRO wireless LAN 3945ABG provides a tri-mode network connection (supporting 802.11a/b/g), with throughput up to 54 Mbps at 5 GHz (802.11a) and 2.4 GHz (802.11g). This notebook also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 34 card slot (no PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. Here’s the full list of connectivity options:

  • 4 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals–from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 FireWire (also known as IEEE 1394 or i.Link) port for connecting digital video camcorders and other peripherals

Customer Review: STAY AWAY FROM VAIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! +1
Glenn Skow’s post is correct. This problems goes a looong way back and they haven’t(refuse to) corrected it yet. This problem exist with Vaio P4 or other models of VAIO. Yeah, it’s the soldering problem with the SODIMM memory banks which gets broken w/ mobo over time. When that happens, you won’t be able to use the laptop. Sony continues to ignore the problems and pass it on to your pocketbook.
Customer Review: STAY AWAY FROM VAIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please be aware that there is a known defect in the Vaio line. I personally have had direct experience with this having my Vaio die on me as a result of a “cracked motherboard” only 14 months of having it. It is a known defect in the Vaio design. I urge anyone who reads this to be very catious about buying a Vaio and consider an alternative, more reliable computer. “The issue stems from the memory SODIMM slots. The solder joints that connect the SODIMM’s to the motherboard are breaking, causing one or both memory modules not to be polled, or counted, towards total system memory…Sony than charges $700-$1200 to repair it”
